Aylesbury Music Workshop, November 2011

"New Music for the New Missal"
Saturday, 12 November 2011
St Edward's Catholic Junior School, Aylesbury
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED...
Forty singers were well supported by strings, woodwind, piano and a rhythm section
as they learnt Teresa's Mass of St Luke, Evangelist setting with all its vocal harmonies and extra instrumental parts, producing a beautiful sound that was both joyful and prayerful.
In the afternoon, several settings of Acclamations were explored, ranging from the Missal Chant to the updated settings of the Gathering Mass, Mass of Hope and Spring Sanctus in the new Celebration Hymnal Supplement of Mass settings.
Then came some SATB responses to responsorial psalms from PsalmSongs volume 1, and an Advent song Prepare for the Coming of the Lord, in which the flute and clarinet added beautiful countermelodies to the unison singing.
There was also time to reflect and pray about the responsibilities of music ministry in our parishes and pastoral areas, and finally the hall was filled with the sound of a four-part round, Forever I will sing of your love, O Lord.
