Prayers for Peace

Since September 11, the need to pray for peace in the world 
has become more and more apparent. Now it is urgent.

Peace will come about
when everyone wants peace
and prays for it.

Lord God
Increase and strengthen
the desire for peace in every human heart,
so that the temptation to violence, injustice and revenge
may be overcome,
and people will live no longer in fear
but in freedom.

The Prayer of St Francis

Lord, make me a channel of your peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring a spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error , I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.

World Peace Prayer

Lead us from death to Life, from falsehood to Truth.
Lead us from despair to Hope, from fear to Trust.
Lead us from hate to Love, from war to Peace.
Let Peace fill our hearts, our world, our universe.
